Williams Organized Journalism Educators

Walter Williams and Willard Grosvenor Bleyer of the University of Wisconsin co-founded the American Association of Teachers of Journalism to improve journalism education. In 1917, Williams organized elite members of this group into the Association of American Schools and Departments of Journalism (AASDJ). Both organizations were precursors to today's Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC).

Willard G. "Daddy" Bleyer (left) and Walter Williams (center) created the AATJ and AASDJ to recognize elite journalism schools, including Talcott Williams' (right) school at Columbia University.
