World War I Cut Journalism Enrollment
World War I slashed the School of Journalism's enrollment almost in half. During the 1916-1917 academic year, 305 students were enrolled; by September 1917, only 173 students remained.

Students became soldiers during World War I, as these Savitar yearbook sketches illustrate. Even Anheuser-Busch advertisements targeted the student-soldier in 1918 (bottom right).
