Walter Williams Died
Walter Williams died of cancer at his home on July 29. The funeral was held at the First Presbyterian Church, where Williams had been an elder for 41 years. Columbia stores closed for the funeral; University officials dismissed classes; and tributes poured in from around the world. Associate Dean Frank L. Martin, who joined the faculty in 1909, was appointed dean of the School.

A memorial spread in the Savitar yearbook gave tribute to Williams (top). Williams remained dean of the School until his death, when Frank L. Martin was named his successor (bottom photos).
