First Missouri Photo Workshop Held
|
Professor Cliff Edom invited 30 professional and freelance photographers, picture editors and students from throughout the United States and Canada for the first Missouri Photo Workshop. Their assignment was "Shoot a picture story of Columbia, Mo." Instructors included Edom; Roy Stryker, director of photography for the Standard Oil Company; Stanley Kalish, picture editor of the Milwaukee Journal; John Morris, picture editor of the Ladies Home Journal; and Rus Arnold and Harold Corsini, both technical freelance specialists. MPW became an annual event, documenting life in more than 40 Missouri towns in a tradition that is still alive today.
Images from the inaugural Missouri Photo Workshop illustrated life in Columbia, from a student hangout on Broadway (top) to the bustling downtown intersection near Broadway and Eighth Street (bottom).
