International Correspondents Highlighted Journalism Week
|
The keynote speakers for Journalism Week, televised by KOMU, were William Randolph Hearst Jr., editor in chief of Hearst newspapers, and Bob Considine and Frank Conniff, correspondents for International News Service. Conniff and Hearst conducted exclusive interviews with Nikita S. Khrushchev and other Soviet leaders in 1955 to win a 1956 Pulitzer Prize.
(Top) Bob Considine, William Randolph Hearst Jr. and Frank Conniff (met by Professor Dale Spencer, far left) were later known as the "Hearst Task Force" for the way they "prowled the global beat, collecting heads of state as other hunters collect heads." Hearst (bottom) addressed the 1955 J-Week banquet on "Our trip to the Kremlin."
