Hot Metal Press Slowly Replaced by Offset
|
The School's non-collegiate program in printing changed its name to the Linotype and Offset School to emphasize the trend from letterpress to lithographic printing. In 1966, eight students earned offset printing certificates. The Columbia Missourian was still printed using a Duplex Tubular hot-metal press throughout the decade, although the School purchased a News King offset press in the mid-1960s that was used for special sections. The offset press, which could be operated by fewer people, took precedence after a pressmen strike in 1971.
