The Journalism and Women Symposium (JAWS) began at the School as a gathering of women in the media industry. Jean Gaddy Wilson, BJ '66, organized the first event; Tad Bartimus, BJ '69, an Associated Press correspondent and later co-founder of the organization, was an inaugural guest. Over the years JAWS became an advocate for women in the media and has conducted major research on salary differentials between men and women in the media.
