  1999
Joint Bachelor's and Master's Degree Program Launched

The graduate program initiated a master's degree that could be earned in one year instead of the usual two by advertising students who had completed their undergraduate studies in journalism at the School. The plan was eventually implemented into the other sequences.

A new brochure was created to share information about the "4+1" or "five-year" master's program. Nicole Norton, MA '01 (top left), was the first student to enroll in the five-year program. Master's degree graduates wore red hoods at commencement to signify receiving the graduate degree in journalism.
