Missouri's
First Newspaper Published

 
Joseph Charless, a printer from Ireland, published the Missouri Gazette, the state's first newspaper, in St. Louis in 1808. At that time, "news" included poems, jokes, anecdotes, farm items and stories from Eastern newspapers. The Missouri Gazette folded in 1820 with rising competition.
