Walter Williams Born

|
Marcus Walter Williams was born to Marcus and Mary Jane Williams on July 2, 1864, in Boonville, Mo. At age 15, Walter entered newspaper work as a "printer's devil" earning 75 cents a week at the Boonville Topic. According to legend, a young Walter, looking for employment on a hot sunny day, considered being a clerk in a book store or working in the newspaper office. The newspaper office was on the shady side of the street, so he went there first.
