Home Football Game Promises a Busy Extended Weekend

Columbia, Mo. (Dec. 1, 2007) -- Planning officials are encouraging those interested in attending the centennial of the Missouri School of Journalism and dedication of the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute to reserve their hotel rooms for the event.

On Sept. 10-12, 2008, the School will celebrate its centennial and will look to the future by officially opening the doors of the Reynolds Journalism Institute, the think tank and research operation for journalism of the 21st century.

The joint celebration is taking place in the days leading up to a home football weekend at MU. On Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008, the MU Tigers will play Nevada in the second home game of the 2008-2009 season. Football tickets will go on sale in the spring of 2008, when more information will be available.

"We anticipate that many will return to campus to celebrate this once-in-a-lifetime event," said Suzette Heiman, director of planning and communications at the School and director of the 2008 centennial-dedication event.

Guests may make reservations at any of Columbia's 34 hotels, which offer more than 3,500 rooms within a 15-minute drive to campus. No headquarters hotel has been designated because all events will take place on campus. The School has worked with the Columbia Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) to temporarily hold room groups at several of the city's hotels. Room rates vary, and guests may contact their preferred hotel chain for other lodging options.

Room Blocks
(Please call the local hotel number and reference the "MU School of Journalism" block. All blocks held from Sept. 9-14, 2008; some hotels have a two-night minimum.)
