Newspaper Next 2.0, the second wave of innovation research from the American Press Institute, offers a vision for transformation, along with specific steps for growing online revenue and practical advice from successful innovative projects.

At a time when many are leaving newsrooms by choice or force, Steve Buttry returned to the newsroom this year as editor of The Gazette and GazetteOnline in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was director of Tailored Programs for the American Press Institute from 2005 to 2008 and was a leader in the research and teaching of API's Newspaper Next project. Buttry spent 33 years as an editor, reporter and writing coach in six Midwestern newsrooms, including the Kansas City Star and Times. He has trained journalists and newspaper executives at more than 200 newspapers, seminars and conferences in 40 states and eight Canadian provinces as well as Mexico, Ecuador, Japan and Germany. Buttry's writing on innovation and journalism has been translated into eight languages.

About the Futures Forum
Top journalists, advertisers and thought leaders will lead numerous interactive sessions during the Sept. 11 Futures Forum, a day of cutting-edge discussions about the next century of journalism. Ethics, convergence and politics are just a few of the many hot topics that will be explored in this diverse program dedicated to challenging industry thinking and visualizing possibilities for the future. Sessions will be 75 minutes long and held concurrently with others on the schedule. Full schedules will be available during on-site check in during the Sept. 10-12 celebration.
