  • Date: Thursday, Sept. 11
  • Place: Tucker Forum, 85 Gannett
Frustrated by the constant criticism of the media, George Kennedy and Daryl Moen, long-time colleagues at the Missouri School of Journalism, decided that someone needed to highlight its contributions. That someone turned out to be Kennedy, Moen and a group of fellow faculty members. The University of Missouri Press published the book, What Good is Journalism? How Reporters and Editors are Saving America's Way of Life, in 2008. Through stories of real people, the authors argue that journalism is better than its critics admit and a force for good in the lives of both individuals and the nation. They offer dozens of examples to show how good journalistic practices enrich the daily lives of citizens and enable them to play their own roles in the democracy.
