What do you do?
I work for The Richards Group in Dallas, Texas, as a brand manager or account executive. I work for several clients both regional and national. I manage the client-agency relationship throughout radio, television, print and nontraditional campaign development.

How did you get your job?
The Richards Group recruits from Mizzou because of the strong program.

What is the best professional lesson you learned at the J-School?
I learned a very realistic view of the "outside world." I was not only told the harsh (and good) realities of my job expectations, but I was also prepared to go into this career feeling like a student all over again, ready to take in anything and everything I can.

What advice do you have for current students?
Learn everything you can about the field you are going into before you begin looking for jobs. No one wants to hire someone who is unsure of what they want to do. You must be confident about the career path you are taking or else employers will not feel you will give the job 100 percent, no matter how many times you say, "I'm a really hard worker." Another tip is that if you want to make it far in your career, be prepared to move. So many people look for jobs in Kansas City and St. Louis that you will be lost in the crowd. Widen your horizons.

What is your favorite J-School memory?
This sounds strange, but I think one of my favorite memories was meeting my capstone group in the Memorial Union cafe to go over our presentation and seeing other capstone groups spread all throughout the building. It was great to recognize so many people who you could one day cross paths with in the industry, and to see everyone working hard on all very different projects was really amazing. It was as if the J-School had invaded Memorial Union.
