Name: Audrey (Finkel) Esposito
Degree and Year: BJ '90 (Broadcast News)
Title: Firefighter/Paramedic
City and State: Chicago, Ill.

What do you do?
I am a firefighter/paramedic in suburban Chicago.

How did you get your job?
Even as I studied journalism at the University of Missouri, I never forgot my childhood dream of being just like "Johnny and Roy" on the old TV show Emergency. After spending a dozen years in radio newswriting and another few years in public/media relations, I decided it was time to act. I went to fire academy, got my paramedic license and here I am.

What is the best professional lesson you learned at the J-School?
Even now the lessons of tight writing stay with me. I have a secondary career as a freelance writer and editor on health and safety topics - a career that I would have never been able to pursue successfully if not for Mizzou. Of course, my chief also has me write his press releases and public education materials.

What advice do you have for current students?
It's all about the writing. Soak up the lessons that Mizzou teaches you, and the world will be your oyster.

What is your favorite J-School memory?
Studying at the Heidelberg with my friends, and early mornings as a teaching assistant at the radio station.
