Degree and Year: BJ '50 (Advertising) Title: Retired; Former Printing Company Owner and Sales Representative City and State: Boca Raton, Fla. Tell us a summary of your career. In 1951, I started a new direct mail advertising and printing company. I specialized in designing and printing newsletters for major corporate clients and then expanded into designing, editing, typesetting and packaging books for small publishers. I then went into sales representation for out-of-state and off-shore book manufacturers. I sold the printing company and specialized in the more profitable sales representation. I retired in 1994 at age 67, and I'm now living happily with my wife Janet in South Florida. We have a son, daughter and four grandchildren. What is the best professional lesson you learned at the J-School? Truth in news writing and truth in advertising is the right path to take. What advice do you have for current students? Be ready to adapt to changing situations as changes in technology, companies and people are sure to come. What is your favorite J-School memory? I remember spending the election night of 1948 watching the election results coming in on The New York Times newspaper facsimile print out. This was brand new technology. It was an exciting night - Dewey wins and then loses, and Truman becomes president. It's never over until it's over.
