Title: Manager of European Communications
City and State: Clayton, Mo.

What do you do? And what is most interesting about it?
For our operations in the UK, Ireland and Germany, I sit down with our managers in the field to review business objectives. I'll then develop the marketing strategy and tactics to assist my clients in meeting those goals. The most interesting and challenging parts of my job are learning about the cultures and how to effectively market to different audiences within each country.

How did you get your job?
I met with a gal (former MU student) who I used to work with at an ad agency here in St. Louis. She had moved to Enterprise, and I met with her to learn more about the company. I was sold and applied for a position, and here I am. I wasn't hired for the international role, but moved into it a week after I started.

Best professional lesson learned at the J-School?
Don't go into jobs acting like you know everything.

What would be your best advice to current students?
Seek out internships during the summer and get to know the people there. They will be great references for you and very well may turn out to be co-workers in your future jobs.

What are you working on currently?
I'm learning the media differences in the UK, tracking competitive activity and seeking out promotional opportunities in local markets. Additionally, I'm working to educate our international groups on the importance of protecting our brand identity and the benefits our department can bring them.

What are your next career steps?
I'm very happy at Enterprise working on an aggressive career path.

What do you consider to be your greatest professional achievement?
Getting to the level of responsibility I currently have at a young age. I have the occasion to meet with our VP of Europe Operations and other corporate vice presidents overseas. They seek out my advice and allow me the freedom to provide recommendations to their groups.

What is one thing you wish you had done?
I wish I had taken a year off between school and work to travel. There's too much pressure to find a job right away, when you have the rest of your life to work.

What is your secret to success?
Stay positive. Find humor in tough situations. Don't be afraid to share your ideas. Stick out the tough projects. Learn how to be a good listener.
