Title: Tourism Marketing Coordinator
City and State: West Palm Beach, Fla.

What do you do? And what is most interesting about it?
As the tourism marketing coordinator, I do just about everything (except mop the floors - yet). In theory, my job description is to work with the marketing managers for U.S., Canada, Europe, South America, and the Caribbean, to promote tourism to Palm Beach County, Fla. But I only did that job for about five minutes. Most of the time, or all the time, I'm working on newsletters, brochures, campaigns, promotional items/materials, Web site, troubleshooting for other departments, and planning company parties. Then, I'm the weather expert or least trying to be. After all, this is Florida, and weather is vital to us. The most interesting part of my job is that I never know what I'm doing until that day.

How did you get your job?
The newspaper!

Best professional lesson learned at the J-School?
Discover your writing voice; it pays off. Really.

What would be your best advice to current students?
As a journalist, don't try to change the world, it won't happen. Be a bit pessimistic. Find a job, journalism, public relations or marketing, where you become vital. You'll write your own ticket.

What do you consider to be your greatest professional achievement?
While working for the City of West Palm Beach Community Events Department (1995-96), I helped to create citywide special events that continue to take place.

What is something about you that may surprise people?
Since 1985, I've been a loyal fan of "As the World Turns." This soap opera is fantastic. If I had one wish, I'd love to be a writer for the show. It must be a great time.
