Prospective students should submit the following materials to be considered for the Missouri School of Journalism doctoral program:

  1. An application for admission to the MU Graduate School.

  2. An application for admission to the Missouri School of Journalism doctoral program. Applicants should have at least two years of full-time professional media or strategic communication experience. (College-level teaching does not meet this requirement.)

  3. Two copies of transcripts from all previous degrees, at least one of which should have been earned in journalism or mass communications. Students who did not write a thesis in their master's program will be asked to complete a project to demonstrate their ability to conduct independent research. A minimum GPA of 3.5 (4.0=A) in graduate work and 3.0 in undergraduate courses is required. Meeting the GPA, GRE and TOEFL minimum standards qualifies an applicant for consideration but does not guarantee admission.

  4. A copy of your Graduate Record Examination (GRE) general test scores. Applicants should meet a minimum GRE standard of 1100 for the Verbal and Quantitative parts combined. A TOEFL score of at least 600 (250 on the computer-based test) is expected for international applicants. Meeting the GPA, GRE and TOEFL minimum standards qualifies an applicant for consideration but does not guarantee admission.

Your application should be received by December 1 if you wish to be considered for entry in the Fall semester. September 1 is the application deadline for entry in the Winter/Spring semester. Deadlines are firm.
