Prospective students should submit the following materials to be considered for the Missouri School of Journalism doctoral program:
- An application for admission to the MU Graduate School.
- An application for admission to the Missouri School of Journalism doctoral program. Applicants should have at least two years of full-time professional media or strategic communication experience. (College-level teaching does not meet this requirement.)
- Two copies of transcripts from all previous degrees, at least one of which should have been earned in journalism or mass communications. Students who did not write a thesis in their master's program will be asked to complete a project to demonstrate their ability to conduct independent research. A minimum GPA of 3.5 (4.0=A) in graduate work and 3.0 in undergraduate courses is required. Meeting the GPA, GRE and TOEFL minimum standards qualifies an applicant for consideration but does not guarantee admission.
- A copy of your Graduate Record Examination (GRE) general test scores. Applicants should meet a minimum GRE standard of 1100 for the Verbal and Quantitative parts combined. A TOEFL score of at least 600 (250 on the computer-based test) is expected for international applicants. Meeting the GPA, GRE and TOEFL minimum standards qualifies an applicant for consideration but does not guarantee admission.
