Alejandro Junco has fun trying to initiate a conversation with the sculpture of Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson always has played a prominent role at Mizzou. The legislative act that created MU in 1839 incorporated some of Jefferson's ideas on higher education. Francis Quadrangle reflects Jefferson's design for the University of Virginia. The sculpture is located near Jefferson's original tombstone in the historic Francis Quadrangle. The trustees of the Jefferson Club, Mizzou's donor recognition group, commissioned the sculpture as a way to celebrate the group’s 30th anniversary in May 2001. Photo by Warren Mayer.
