Missouri SPJ Chapter Receives Grant, Will Host Ethicist

Columbia, Mo. (March 3, 2004) -- The Society of Professional Journalists chapter recently received a $500 regional grant. The funds will be used to host a speaker as part of the organization's 2nd Annual Ethics Week.

"We're honored to receive this award for the second time," said Charles Davis, adviser for the Missouri School of Journalism's SPJ chapter. "We are excited to have Dr. Philip Seib educate our members and help SPJ create better, more ethical journalists."

Seib, the Lucius W. Neiman Professor of Journalism at Marquette University in Milwaukee, is scheduled to speak at 7 p.m., April 28, in Tucker Forum at the Missouri School of Journalism. Seib's work focuses on media ethics, new technologies, political reporting and the relationship between news coverage and public policy.

With more than 100 members, the Missouri School of Journalism chapter of SPJ is one of the largest and most active in the country. The Society of Professional Journalists is a professional organization dedicated to improving journalism, ensuring its place in a democratic society and promoting its ethical practice.
