Feb. 8, 2007: Woodward Joins Photojournalism Faculty at Missouri School of Journalism The Missouri School of Journalism welcomed one new faculty member to campus at the beginning of the winter 2007 semester. Rie Woodward, MA '99, has joined the School's photojournalism faculty as an assistant professor and will serve as director of photography for the Columbia Missourian, a community newspaper that also functions a working laboratory for Missouri Journalism students. Feb. 12, 2007: Missouri Journalism Announces Big Plans for Twin Celebration in 2008 The Missouri School of Journalism today announced plans to celebrate the centennial of the School and the dedication of the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute. The festivities on the University of Missouri-Columbia campus are scheduled for Wednesday through Friday, Sept. 10-12, 2008. It was on Sept. 14, 1908, that the world's first school of journalism held its first day of classes, and the faculty-run, student-staffed Columbia Missourian published its first issue. [More]

Feb. 14, 2007: Watergate Editor to Speak About Experience, Legacy of Landmark Story Harry M. Rosenfeld, the Washington Post city editor who oversaw the history-making Watergate investigation, will speak about his experience with the legendary story at 4 p.m., Thursday, March 8, in Fisher Auditorium at the Missouri School of Journalism. Rosenfeld teamed Bob Woodward with reporter Carl Bernstein to cover the Watergate break-in. As the story grew in scope and importance, Rosenfeld fought hard to keep the story in Woodward and Bernstein's hands and under his supervision at the city desk. [More]

Feb. 15, 2007: Newspaper Study: Investing in the Newsroom is Good for Business Murali Mantrala and Esther Thorson, director of research for the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute and associate dean for graduate studies in the Missouri School of Journalism, recently examined the profitability of newspapers. Their research revealed that news quality most directly affects the bottom line. [More]

Feb. 26, 2007: 13 Journalism Seniors Inducted into Elite Mizzou '39 The Mizzou Alumni Association Student Board recently named 13 Missouri School of Journalism seniors to the 2007 class of Mizzou '39. Mizzou '39 honorees must be seniors with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Mizzou '39 honors outstanding seniors for their academic achievements, leadership and service. Created by the AASB in 2005, the name pays tribute to the spirit of service modeled by the families that supported the founding of the University in 1839. A committee of alumni, faculty and staff review the applications and select the winners. [More]
