Jann Carl, BJ '82, to Be Honored at MU Awards Ceremony

Columbia, Mo. (Oct. 2, 2009) -- The Mizzou Alumni Association (MAA) will honor 19 outstanding faculty and alumni Friday, Oct. 2, at its 42nd Annual Faculty-Alumni Awards Ceremony when the Distinguished Service Award, the Distinguished Faculty Award and 17 Faculty-Alumni Awards will be presented.

MAA Faculty-Alumni Awards recognize the achievement of faculty and alumni. Assistant, associate and full professors are considered for their work as teachers and researchers and their relationship with students. Alumni are considered for both their accomplishments in professional life and service to their community and alma mater.
Among the winners is broadcast journalist Jann Carl, BJ '82.
Nationally respected for her interviews, Carl recently completed her 14th season at "Entertainment Tonight," the ratings leader in entertainment news. During her tenure at ET, she served as weekend anchor, primary substitute anchor and senior correspondent. Carl's journalism career began in television news as a reporter for WLS-TV in Chicago, and she then moved to Los Angeles to work as a news reporter at KABC-TV. Carl then co-anchored KTLA-TV's top-rated "News at Ten" for eight years, where she earned three Los Angeles Emmy Awards for her news coverage.
Carl has stayed involved in a variety of MU and MAA activities, including serving as the 2001 University of Missouri Homecoming Grand Marshal; moderating a Futures Forum session on entertainment journalism during the 2008 centennial of the Missouri School of Journalism/dedication of the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute celebration; and serving as the master of ceremonies for the "Model Citizen" fashion show benefiting MU's Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders.
During the University's For All We Call Mizzou campaign, Carl was a member of the national steering committee, master of ceremonies for the Francis Quadrangle kickoff and producer of the campaign video. She has been involved with the Muscular Dystrophy Association for 21 years, serving as national vice president and on the board of directors. Since 1996, Carl has been a national co-host of the Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon. An MAA endowed life member, Carl and her husband, David, have two children, Katherine and Matthew.

Oct. 19, 2005: Award-Winning Journalists Among Those to be Honored at the 2005 MUAA Faculty-Alumni Awards William L. Miller, AB '51, Randall D.
