Doctoral Application: Domestic

Please Note:
Some application materials are to be submitted online and some are to be mailed to the J-School as hard copies. Please read the following instructions carefully and submit materials either online or as hard copies, as required.

Submit Online

Submit the following materials online by the indicated deadline.

As you are completing the MU Graduate School application form, you will be given the opportunity to upload supplemental materials. The journalism school requires that applicants upload the following materials into the MU Graduate School application form:

  • Doctoral program application: Missouri School of Journalism.
  • Statement of doctoral objectives.
  • Your thesis abstract or your thesis proposal if you have not yet defended your thesis. Students who did not write a thesis in their master’s program should include a research paper of article length where they are the sole author.
  • Current resume.
  • Three Letters of Recommendation

How the online recommendation process works:

  • Click the “Recommendation Provider List” button on the recommendation request page within the MU Graduate School application.
  • Insert the name and contact information of each recommendation provider.
  • Once the recommendation provider information is saved, an e-mail will be sent to the online recommendation provider with an access code and instructions on how to proceed with the online recommendation.
  • When the recommendation provider submits the form to our office it will become a part of your application.
  • Applicants can view the status of online recommendations by logging into their application account.

Submit the following materials as hard copies by the indicated deadline, to the address below.

  • Two copies of all official transcripts.
