Two-Year Program

The master’s program requires a minimum of 37 graduate credits. All students are required to take JOURN 8000 Mass Media Seminar and JOURN 8006 Quantitative Research Methods or JOURN 8008 Qualitative Research Methods. Students also typically choose one of the following courses: JOURN 8026 Philosophy of Journalism, JOURN 8030 History of Mass Media, JOURN 8038 Seminar in Communications Law, or JOURN 8080 Media Ethics. Students are required to complete the capstone section of the model they have chosen. At least half of the program (19 credits) must be at the 8000 level.

Five-Year BJ/MA Program

The five-year BJ/MA program requires a minimum of 30 graduate credits. All students are required to take JOURN 8000 Mass Media Seminar and JOURN 8006 Quantitative Research Methods or JOURN 8008 Qualitative Research Methods. Students are required to complete the capstone section of the model they have chosen. At least half of the program (15 credits) must be at the 8000 level.
