The International Center administers study abroad and exchange programs. The Center houses an extensive library which includes information on programs, study abroad scholarships, and a variety of countries and cultures. The Center organizes an international student orientation each semester and helps coordinate special events with other campus groups and departments involved with international issues. Staff members can also assist international students with general questions about living in Columbia and the United States.
The Asian Affairs Center at the University of Missouri-Columbia, established in 1998, seeks to encourage education on Asian issues and to promote activities on the MU campus. The Asian Affairs Center Web site describes their mission, provides information on Asian issues, and promotes some study abroad opportunities in Asia.
The European Union Center at the University of Missouri-Columbia was founded in 1998. This institution seeks to promote education about the EU at MU, to enhance the relationship between the EU and the United States, and to encourage original research on the European Union. The EU Center Web site contains a wealth of information on the Center, its mission, and the European Union itself.
The Center for Student Involvement, located in A022 Brady Commons, is a one-stop source of information on the over 400 student organizations recognized by the University of Missouri-Columbia. The opportunities for international students and those with an interest in working with them are as varied as the student organizations themselves.
The Intensive English Program provides international students the opportunity to sharpen their English language skills. Students can choose to enroll in the Intensive Engish Program or the English Language Support Program. Students enrolled in the Intensive English Program study English grammar, reading, and vocabulary five days a week, five hours each day. An added emphasis is placed on note-taking skills and English used for academic purposes. While in this program, students cannot enroll in other MU classes. The English Language Support Program is less intense and focuses on English grammar, composition, reading and vocabulary as well as oral communication skills. Students enrolled in this program can also enroll in MU classes. Students interested in improving their English language skills while at MU are encouraged to send an e-mail to the program administrators requesting more information.
