Visiting Scholars and Professionals
The Missouri School of Journalism offers a limited number of opportunities for visiting scholars and visiting professionals to spend a semester or academic year studying at Missouri.
Visitors are expected to attend a weekly international seminar and are entitled to audit one course per semester (subject to space availability). Visiting scholars and visiting professionals are given full library privileges and access to the school's computer facilities. Office space is not provided.
The Missouri School of Journalism does not have funding for visiting scholars and professionals and normally charges a nominal facilitative assistance fee. Funding for visitors may come from employers, associations or foundations.
In addition to individual programs for visiting professionals and scholars, the Missouri School of Journalism hosts the Hubert H. Humphrey program for mid-career journalists.
Sponsored by the Institute of International Education, this prestigious program brings mid-career broadcast journalists from around the world to Missouri for a full academic year. The Missouri School of Journalism is a popular destination for journalists from around the world. In 2002, 168 individuals from 68 countries visited the school for short-term visits of one to three days. Many of these visits were small groups requesting a customized program such as this group from Kirgystan (pictured at top, right).
Deadlines are April 15 for fall semester and October 15 for winter semester.
