This new program is designed to assist faculty in their second, third and fourth years of UM employment as they adjust to new academic responsibilities and environments. It also will introduce them to innovative teaching methods, to support them in their scholarly work and to provide opportunities for them to network within their own campus as well as across the four campuses of the University of Missouri System.

Frogge and Nevalga are both assistant professors and members of the radio-television journalism faculty. Frogge is the managing editor at KOMU-TV and Nevalga the supervising producer at KOMU-TV.

Simons, an assistant professor and member of the convergence journalism faculty, teaches multi-platform reporting and editing. She also serves as the adviser to ONA Mizzou, the local club of the Online News Association.

The three journalism professors will join other participants at three system-wide retreats throughout the year. Columbia-campus activities will include a variety of learning opportunities that will address topics designed to support faculty development, faculty roles in student success and faculty networking opportunities.

“These young professors have already shown enthusiasm and dedication in their teaching,” said Lynda Kraxberger, the associate dean for undergraduate studies and administration. “Their selection as faculty scholars represents an important investment by our University in teaching and learning across the UM system.”
