14 Missouri Journalism Students Inducted into Secret Societies During Annual Tap Day
Selection Is Based on Scholarship, Leadership and Service
Columbia, Mo. (May 6, 2014) — Fourteen Missouri School of Journalism students were inducted into three secret societies during the 87th annual Tap Day on the University of Missouri campus.
Selection was based on academic performance, extracurricular activities, scholarship, leadership and service.
Identities of the 2014 inductees into the six MU honor societies were kept secret until the ceremony, which took place on April 25 in Jesse Hall.
School of Journalism students honored are the following:
Mortar Board
Mortar Board provides opportunities for continued leadership development and encourages lifelong contributions to the global community, while promoting service to the University.
- Julia Bush, a senior studying magazine writing, from Keller, Texas.
- Javier Fernandez, a junior studying strategic communication, from Miami.
- Tiffany Melecio, a senior dual major in photojournalism and English, from St. Louis.
- Lisette Rossman, a senior dual major in strategic communication and German, from Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Omicron Delta Kappa
Omicron Delta Kappa, a national leadership honor society, seeks to recognize high achievers in collegiate activities, to bring together a representative group of students and to bring together the faculty and student body on a basis of mutual interest and understanding.
- Philip Bergman, a sophomore studying radio-television journalism, from Media, Pennsylvania.
- Meghan Boggess, a senior studying international reporting, from Elmhurst, Illinois.
- Emily Donaldson, a senior dual major in magazine journalism and political science, from Houston.
- Amanda LaBrot, a junior studying radio-television journalism, from Metairie, Louisiana.
- Bryndon Minter, a senior studying strategic communication, from Overland Park, Kansas.
- Jamie Ras, a sophomore studying strategic communication, from Olathe, Kansas.
- Lauren Rundquist, a senior studying strategic communication, from Wildwood, Missouri.
- Allison Schnitker, a senior studying strategic communication, from Kansas City, Missouri.
- Katie Yaeger, a junior studying news editing, from Atlanta.
QEBH
QEBH, founded in 1898, is the oldest recognized secret honor society at the University. Its founder desired to unite exemplary campus citizens based on their selfless dedication to the University and excellence in personal character.
