9 Missouri Journalism Students, 1 Professor Inducted into Selective Collegiate Honor Society
Phi Kappa Phi Members Build an Enduring Legacy for Future Generations
Columbia, Mo. (May 12, 2014) — Nine Missouri School of Journalism juniors and seniors and one journalism faculty member were recently inducted into Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest, largest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.
Founded in 1897 at the University of Maine, the society represents undergraduate juniors who are in the top 7.5 percent of their class and seniors who are in the top 10 percent of their class. Membership is by invitation and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Faculty members who have achieved scholarly distinction may also be eligible for membership. All become a part of the larger Phi Kappa Phi community of scholars and professionals who are dedicated to building an enduring legacy for future generations.
Lynda Kraxberger, associate dean of undergraduate studies at the School, serves as president of the University of Missouri chapter.
The new student members of University of Missouri’s Phi Kappa Phi chapter are the following:
- Andrew Feather
- Kiersten Kuc, a freshman dual major in journalism and business from Chesterfield, Missouri.
- Katherine Link, a junior radio-television journalism major from Plano, Texas.
- Yicheng Liu
- Ryan McElroy
- Anne Pechenik
- Genevieve Reaume
- Michaela Tucker, a freshman studying radio-television production from Minneapolis.
- Connor Voss, a junior strategic communication major from Washington, Missouri.
Kuc, Link, Pechenik, Reaume, Tucker and Voss are members of the MU Honors College.
Student members of Phi Kappa Phi also nominated Assistant Professor Amanda Hinnant for membership, and she was inducted during the spring ceremony. Her research focuses on health journalism, disparities, science communication and sociology of news. Hinnant has won top paper awards for her scholarship and has served in various leadership positions for an international journalism and mass communication organization. She teaches courses in magazine journalism and research methods.
