This award provides special recognition for faculty who have exhibited a broader college or campus impact on the effective use of technology. The awardees were selected from the pool of finalists for the Awards for Excellence in Teaching with Technology, but whose portfolios exhibited a different kind of influence on the teaching and learning process.

McKean chairs the campus information technology committee and is the faculty coordinator for the Journalism School’s teaching partnership with Apple. This summer McKean was named an Apple Distinguished Educator for his leadership of that project.

“Professor McKean has shifted the Broadcast News Department — and indeed the radio/television news profession — into high-tech high-gear,” said Kent Collins, chair of the department. “What he is developing in newsroom technology at Missouri will be used by practicing newsroom journalists worldwide some day soon.”

McKean will be recognized at the upcoming Faculty Recognition Awards Dinner. He also will receive a $250 stipend that can be used to purchase educational technology-related equipment or software or for other materials that support the use of educational technology in teaching and learning environments.
