Columbia, Mo. (Dec. 23, 2005) — A new viewbook that shows how the Missouri School of Journalism trains future journalists is now available to prospective students, alumni and other interested persons.

“Some of the best journalists in the world have learned their profession through the Missouri Method,” said Brian S. Brooks, associate dean for undergraduate studies and administration. “The viewbook reflects our special and unique hands-on approach.”

Copies of the Missouri Journalism Viewbook may be requested by contacting the Missouri School of Journalism.

The viewbook depicts students learning off-campus through study abroad programs and those offered in New York and Washington, D.C. The viewbook also offers a glimpse of where a Missouri Journalism education can take its alumni by featuring several of School’s successful alumni working in different areas of the profession.Highly visual, the 20-page booklet captures the excitement and challenges of the student journalism experience. Photographs show students covering political campaigns, taking photographs at community activities, designing page layouts, anchoring newscasts, presenting strategic campaigns to clients and much more for the School’s community-based professional media and advertising outlets.

A two-page spread highlights recent student and faculty awards, noteworthy events and other significant accomplishments. Helpful links to admissions, academic, the Journalism Scholars and Walter Williams Scholars programs, computer requirements and other information for the School and the University of Missouri-Columbia are included.

A corresponding photo gallery on the School’s Web site offers prospective students in-depth detail and colorful facts about each of the photos in the viewbook. Profiles in Success of more than 200 alumni also are featured on the site.

“This viewbook will help convince high-ability high school students that there is no better place to study journalism,” said Brooks. “Missouri offers unparalleled learning opportunities for those who see themselves as future leaders in the world’s major media markets.”

The viewbook is being distributed to those who visit campus and is being mailed to recently admitted students. Copies can be requested by contacting the Missouri School of Journalism.
