Recruiters from Top Media Companies Participate in Recent Career Fair

Missouri Journalism students wait to visit with recruiters at the Career Fair.

Columbia, Mo. (Nov. 16, 2009) — The Missouri School of Journalism hosted recruiters and employees from several high-powered media organizations at its fall career fair.

The fair, which was held in Stotler Lounge of Memorial Union, was organized by the Career Services office in the journalism school and featured a morning session with faculty about Missouri programs, an open-house style fair, and a sit-down lunch where students could speak with recruiters.

Associate Professor Jennifer Reeves presented to the recruiters in the morning, highlighting the activities that are currently taking place both within the School of Journalism and the Reynolds Journalism Institute.

“The recruiters really liked the presentation and were impressed by what the school and RJI were doing,” Phou Sengsavanh, the assistant director of career services, said. “It was a good showing given the economy and speaks about the program’s strength.”

At the fair, students got an opportunity to bring samples of their work and resumes to the recruiters. Some companies provided formal interviews that students could sign up for in advance, while others conducted more relaxed conversations during the open house.

A career fair is scheduled for February 2010 for strategic communication industry recruiters. Those interested in participating should contact the Missouri School of Journalism.
