Senior Alex Rozier Is a Grand-Prize Winner in YouTube’s International Reporting Competition
Columbia, Mo. (April 26, 2010) — Radio-television journalism senior Alex Rozier is one of five grand-prize winners in YouTube’s “Project: Report” international competition. He wins a $10,000 grant to work with the Pulitzer Center on an international reporting project.
“Project: Report” was a partnership of YouTube with the Pulitzer Center and made possible by Sony VAIO and Intel. Non-professional aspiring journalists were encouraged to tell stories that might not otherwise be told.
Rozier’s winning entry, “The World Mobility Problem,” focuses on a Columbia man whose faith inspired him to start the Personal Energy Transportation (PET) project, which provides appropriate mobility to all God’s children in need. In 2009 more than 1,850 vehicles were distributed around the world.
Rozier was eligible to participate in the finals after placing in the Top 10 of the first round, for which he won a Sony VAIO notebook with the new 2010 Intel Core i7 processor and a Sony HD video camera. His winning entry in the semi-final round, “The Story of Amanda McDaniel,” was about a Columbia teen who suffers from childhood bone cancer yet still manages to cheer for her high school sports teams.
“Alex is the kind of young journalist who should make us all very optimistic for the future of news. He is truly interested in people and their stories, and he will go to the ends of the earth to bring these stories to life. Now, with the ‘Project: Report’ prize, he can literally do so,” said Holly Edgell, an assistant professor of radio-television journalism.
