CIERA DOCKTER is a first-year doctoral student emphasizing in Strategic Communication. She received both her BA in Communication (emphasis in Integrated Marketing Communication) and MA in Communication from Wichita State University in Wichita, KS. Before starting her Ph.D. at the University of Missouri, she worked as a copywriter and social media consultant for Ascential Digital Marketing in Wichita and also held internships at KWCH 12 Eyewitness News and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Mid-America Chapter. Ciera is a teaching fellow at the University of Missouri’s Journalism School. Her love for teaching began at Wichita State where she taught Public Speaking, as well as co-taught Intro to Film Studies and Communication and Society. She has also taught Introduction to Integrated Marketing for the Communication Upward Bound program — a program in the Wichita area that allows underprivileged youth to gain experience in a college setting and sharpen their communication skills. Ciera’s past research interests included gender portrayals in the media and how communication can be used to reduce the public health issue of hunger on college campuses. Currently, Ciera is interested in studying strategic health messages and how the media can be used to better health knowledge and behavior.
