VICKI KNASEL BROWN is a PhD candidate focusing on mainstream and religious media history and media sociology. Her dissertation will examine the professionalization of Southern Baptist media and the possible effects of professionalization on its coverage of race issues within the Southern Baptist Convention. She also plans to pursue research about women in religious journalism, religious media and the First Amendment, and cultural studies.
Vicki presented at AEJMC and American Journalism Historians Association in 2017, and was awarded the AJHA Robert Lance Memorial Award for the Outstanding Student Paper in 2017.
Vicki has been a working journalist for most of the past 35 years, with awards from the National Newspaper Association, the Texas Press Association, the Texas Medical Association, the Baptist Communicators Association and Associated Church Press.
