Students Develop iPad App

A photo retrospective iPad app for the University of Missouri’s 100th Homecoming built with the help of magazine journalism students at the School of Journalism signals an unfolding initiative to expand their creative development skills for the private sector.

The Homecoming app arose from a class proposal to the MU Alumni Association’s MIZZOU magazine. The iPad app, with 140 historic photographs, was released by the Apple Store on Sept. 30, 2011. A second, student-driven iPad app being developed for Missouri Review to celebrate the literary magazine’s 35th anniversary will be released in spring of 2012.

Assistant Professor Rhonda Prast said the iPad initiative in her “magazines across platforms” class will continue to unfold as students develop additional iPad apps in conjunction with the Reynolds Journalism Institute and magazine journalism faculty.
