Indah Setiawati’s research area focuses on media sociology. She is interested in journalists’ occupation from the labor perspective, gender, identities, and journalistic autonomy. She investigated job satisfaction and voluntary turnover among millennial English-language journalists in Indonesia for her master’s thesis. Her research interests also include female journalists’ work-life balance, new business models in journalism, and online audience development.

Indah received her Master’s degree in Journalism from the University of Missouri in 2020 as a Fulbright scholar. Previously, she worked as a deputy editor at The Jakarta Post daily in Indonesia for 11 years. She also worked as a journalist covering the intersection of business and environment at Missouri Business Alert in Spring 2019.
