MELANIE FORREST serves as the Engagement and Outreach Coordinator for the Missouri School of Journalism. She is directly involved in engagement efforts nationwide to bring the best and brightest to Mizzou for our undergraduate programs.
She also serves as a Strategic Communications Adjunct Professor specializing in our AdZou capstone agency course, PR Design and PR Events and Promotions courses for the Missouri Journalism faculty. Forrest has been instrumental in the development of course curriculum and partnerships with area businesses and non-profits for the PR Events and Promotions course utilizing the Missouri Method.
Forrest’s professional background includes award-winning public relations campaigns, national sales, international recruiting and corporate training programs for an international cosmetic company based out of Los Angeles, California. She was featured in “O” The Oprah Magazine, in the Daytime Emmy’s gift rooms, corporate and product training videos, on various television news programs and on a variety of regional and local print journalism platforms. In addition to leading a national team with advertising, public relations and record-breaking sales campaigns, Forrest served as a keynote speaker at national events for SGI. Forrest received numerous national awards from SGI including top 10 producer, top regional and state producer and was awarded the distinction of SGI Missouri State Founder.
She was also an award-winning teacher for Hickman High School in Columbia, Missouri teaching courses in website design, graphic design and business law. As the advisor for a national high school business student organization, Forrest took students to national competitions in the areas of website design, entrepreneurship, marketing business plan and business law, winning several national titles. In addition, she served as a keynote speaker at regional events on student engagement and curriculum development. Her final year at Hickman, Forrest was awarded “Teacher of the Year” by the graduating senior class. She has also developed curriculum for the University of Missouri marketing education department in the areas of personal selling and retail management.
She is a 1991 and 1997 graduate of Mizzou with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in the areas of business and digital media education. As an alumnus, Forrest has also served as a proud member of The Jefferson Club and is a Faurot Fellow for the Tiger Scholarship Fund.
