Quyen “Quinn” Dang
Doctoral Student
Quyen “Quinn” Dang is a first-year Ph.D student with a passion for science communication, especially environmental issues and climate change. Her focus in science communication is media effects and media sociology. Specifically, how media affects public perception and behavioral intentions, and how differences in culture and prior beliefs shape those perceptions. In her future work, she is interested in media sociology, ethics, and law in science communication. She explores how law and policy constraints affect the format and framing used by science communicators, how ethical perceptions guide communicators’ choices of framing, and how these affect audiences’ choice of scientific information sources.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in Multimedia Technology from the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology in Vietnam and a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Missouri. During her master’s program, she won the second-place student paper award in the Law and Policy Division at the 2025 AEJMC conference for her research on greenwashing regulation and the First Amendment.
In her early career, she worked at global agencies as senior creative designer and junior art director at Ogilvy, Bates Chi and Partners and worked on several integrated marketing communication for clients such as the Coca-Cola Company, Colgate-Palmolive Company, and Carlsberg Group.
In her free time, she likes playing games, shopping at antique stores, cooking, and sharing food with friends.
