First Semester
- Take JOURN 9000 Doctoral Proseminar I.
- Take JOURN 9087 Doctoral Research Seminar .
- Be employed as a research or teaching assistant.
Second Semester
- Take JOURN 9006 Doctoral Proseminar II.
- Take JOURN 9010 Doctoral Seminar (required this semester).
- Take JOURN 9087 Doctoral Research Seminar.
- File D1 form, by the end of the semester.
- Be employed as a research or teaching assistant.
- Evaluate teaching level (for students with prior teaching experience).
Third Semester
- File D2 form by the end of the semester.
- Take JOURN 9087 Doctoral Research Seminar.
- Be employed as a research or teaching assistant.
Fourth Semester
- Take JOURN 9087 Doctoral Research Seminar.
- Take comps by the end of the fourth or the beginning of the fifth semester, including the oral portion of the examination.
- Be employed as a research or teaching assistant.
Fifth and Subsequent Semesters
- Be continuously enrolled; encouraged to participate in JOURN 9087 Doctoral Research Seminar.
- Meet with the student’s committee to approve dissertation proposal.
- Write and defend dissertation.
- Continue research or teaching assistantship through the sixth semester.
