JOANIE STRAUB is a seasoned professional with over 30 years working in marketing and communications. Currently, she serves as the Director of Planning and Communications at the Missouri School of Journalism and the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute.

In this role, Straub manages a staff of five, overseeing all communication forms with all audiences, internal and external, for both the School of Journalism and RJI. She supervises the creation and integration of all marketing communication products, including web content, social media and more. Additionally, she organizes and oversees annual and one-time events for the Missouri School of Journalism and RJI.

Since 2019, Straub has been an adjunct professor at the School, teaching one section of J1400: Applied Projects in Journalism and Strategic Communication. In this class she combines her love of journalism and strategic communication, introducing undergraduate students to the basics of these practices.

Prior to joining the School, Straub spent seven years at the Missouri Department of Conservation, with the last two as the Outreach and Education Division Chief. In this capacity, she provided strategic leadership to manage, evolve and give voice and vision to the Department’s brand. Straub oversaw the external, public-facing website, marketing and communications, outreach and education, and general office operations, with a total division size of 150 statewide employees.

In her free time, she enjoys the outdoors, spending time with her family and traveling.
