Senior Arts Editor at The Washington Post

Christine Ledbetter, BJ '77

Degree(s): BJ '77

Whereabouts: United States, Washington D.C.

What do you do?
I am the senior arts editor at the Washington Post.

How did you get your job?
I came to the Washington Post after news and features stints in papers such as the Boca Raton News, Dayton Daily News, Detroit Free Press, Chicago Sun-Times and Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

What is the best professional lesson you learned at the J-School?
Nothing can hold you back if you’re tenacious.

What advice do you have for current students?
Keep learning new skills because the industry is changing at lightning speed.

What is your favorite J-School memory?
I met my husband Dean Miller Skylar, who was a master’s student in Photojournalism. His parents, Marilyn Miller and David Skylar, were also both graduates of the Journalism School. My mother-in-law was one of the first female “copy boys” at the Cleveland paper. Our daughter, Rachel, also went to journalism school (unfortunately to Indiana University), making us three generations of journalists.

Any additional comments?
I am very grateful to the instructors at the J-School who helped me.
