What do you do?
I am the Digital Director for the Peace Corps, the international volunteer service agency founded by President Kennedy. I manage the day-to-day operations of social media and online content creation for the agency.
How did you get your job?
I got my job through an acquaintance of an acquaintance who was looking to add more online communications people to the team. I came with a strong background of communications strategy and content creation from previous positions in public relations and politics.
What is the best professional lesson you learned at the J-School?
Writing matters. A lot of people don’t know how to write, so if you can construct a clean and thoughtful sentence, you’re actually way ahead of the pack.
What advice do you have for current students?
Don’t let the state of journalism worry you. There are myriad things you can do with a journalism degree. And, if you can write you have an edge.
What is your favorite J-School memory?
Meeting some of the most impressive and fun-loving people I know. Who could have guessed they would be in mid-Missouri?
