Bob Lewis, MA ’66
Bob Lewis, MA ’66, aka Tumbleweed Smith on the radio, was honored as the Texas Media Award recipient at the Texas Society Daughters of the American Revolution state conference. The award is presented to an individual who has contributed greatly to American culture within the historical, educational or patriotic objectives of the DAR national society. “The Sound of Texas” is a daily syndicated show that covers history, folklore, legends, small towns and characters of all ages. Lewis has produced nearly 11,000 segments in the more than 40 years the show has been on the air, representing one of the largest private collections of oral histories in the country. Lewis writes, “One of the greatest things I did was going to the U of Mo. to get a master’s degree in journalism in 1966. It enabled me to have the confidence to start a business I love. I started Orange House Productions in 1969 and have produced award-winning documentaries and features in both audio and video.”
