Gary Neil Schmedding

Gary Neil Schmedding, BJ ’60, passed away on Dec. 2, 2025, at age 87. A proud graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism, Gary enjoyed a distinguished 40-year career in broadcasting, ultimately serving as president of the Lee Broadcast Group. He remained connected to the university throughout his life and served for several years on the J-School’s advisory board.

Gary was especially proud that two of his children followed him to Mizzou: his daughter Teresa (BJ ’89) and his son Neil (BHS/Respiratory Therapy ’19). His family’s Tiger tradition will continue, as his granddaughter will begin her studies at Mizzou in the fall of 2026.

He is remembered for his integrity, humility and lifelong commitment to faith, family and service.
