Ethel Payne
Payne’s career established her as an experienced national and international journalist whose assignments took her around the globe to the civil rights movement in the south and to two wars, the Vietnam War and the civil war in Nigeria. She began covering the White House in the 1950’s and wrote a weekly syndicated column. She was also a commentator on television for the CBS opinion program, “Spectrum.”
