Marlene Sanders

Sanders has been a pioneer in women’s involvement in the broadcast industry. She was the first woman to anchor an evening newscast (1964), to cover the Vietnam War (1966) and to be named a network news vice president (1976, at ABC News). Sanders joined CBS Reports in 1978 and won three Emmy Awards for her work on the program. She is the co-author of Waiting for Prime Time: The Women of Television News. For the past four years she has anchored public affairs programs for Channel 13, the PBS station in New York.
