Johnson, who received her doctorate in 1977 from the University of Wisconsin, began her career in journalism as a broadcaster in Madison, Wis. She is the publisher of a general circulation daily newspaper, The Ithaca Journal. She has been involved in numerous training programs and has taught broadcast news in a minority workshop at the University Missouri School of Journalism. She later went on to be co-creator of MU’s Multicultural Management Program and remains on the Advisory Board today.
