Anayet Rahaman

Anayet Rahaman is a doctoral student and Reynolds Journalism Institute (RJI) doctoral fellow at the University of Missouri School of Journalism. His research focuses on effects of technological changes and innovation in journalism practices and news consumption habits of the twenty-first century audiences. Using a sociological approach, he is interested in studying the strategies journalists employ to produce quality content, fight misinformation, and engage audiences. 

Anayet received a Top Four Paper Award for his auto-ethnographic paper from the Central States Communication Association in 2023. He also presented papers at the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) Midwinter Conference in 2024 and the International Conference in Media, Communication, and Journalism at University of Chittagong in Bangladesh.

Before coming to the U.S., Anayet worked as a business and economic reporter for English-language dailies in Bangladesh, covering especially small enterprises, and taught journalism courses at undergraduate classes. He graduated from the University of Chittagong with bachelor and master’s degrees in communication and journalism. Anayet also earned an M.A. in Communication Studies from Texas Tech University, where he worked as a graduate part-time instructor. He participated in several journalism trainings, including “Writing Business and Financial News” by Thomson Reuters in London, “Computer-Assisted Budget Reporting” by Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE) in Dhaka, and  “Freedom and Responsibility in Media” by International Institute of Journalism (IIJ) in Germany.     

During his free time, Anayet loves to explore new places, play soccer, and watch movies. Some of his favorite movies include Interstellar, Get Out, A Separation (Iran), Pather Panchali (Bengali), and Taare Zameen Par (India).
